Manchester United given transfer boost in pursuit of world-class Serie A keeper

Manchester United have been handed a huge boost for Inter Milan stopper keeper Samir Handanovic with boss Roberto Mancini admitting that the Slovakian could leave in search of Champions League football.

Louis van Gaal is in the transfer market for a replacement to Old Trafford no.1 David de Gea – who could be on his way to the Santiago Bernabeu if he is persuaded into making the switch to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer.

Inter manager Mancini was ambiguous in his response to questions on Handanovic’s future, which suggests the 30-year-old’s spells at the San Siro could very well be coming to an end.

The Italian said, “I do not know the situation of Samir. I just know today that he made a great save 1-0 for opponents,” as quoted by Metro.

“He wants to play in the Champions? I can understand that… we’ll see.”

Mancini’s men are sitting mid-table in Italy’s top-flight – missing out on Champions League football this season – and it seems Handanovic will seek an exit from the club in order to compete in the elite European competition next term.

Manchester United beat Crystal Palace on Saturday evening 2-1, and with fifth-placed Liverpool only managing a draw with Premier League champions Chelsea on Sunday, the Red Devils’ place in the top four is all but secured.
