The 23-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best young midfielders in the game, which has put him on the radar of big clubs all around Europe for some time now.

Still, it seems that the two Premier League giants could be frustrated in their efforts to land him in the upcoming summer transfer window, with the Daily Star reporting that he wants to become Atletico’s answer to Steven Gerrard by spending virtually his entire career at the Vicente Calderon.

It is said that Koke could be about to sign a new contract with last season’s La Liga champions, bumping his buy-out clause up to an incredible £100m, which may be enough to frighten off potential suitors.

Koke has been quoted as saying he has no plans to leave, saying: “I have a contract with Atletico, I want to accomplish things and I am happy here. Of course I’d like to be Atleti’s Gerrard.”
