Arsenal prepare £40m bid to sign Real Madrid star, talks to start next week

Gunners chasing ambitious signing.

Arsenal are being linked with an exciting £40m move to sign Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema this summer, with talks set to properly begin next week, according to The Sun.

The Gunners look in need of improvements up front after an inconsistent season from Olivier Giroud in 2014/15, while Danny Welbeck also struggled to impress in his first season at the Emirates Stadium after joining from Manchester United.

Benzema, meanwhile, continued his fine prolific form that has seen him become established as one of the best forward players in the world, with 22 goals in all competitions, meaning he has now scored 20 or more goals in a season for the fifth campaign running.

The Sun claims that Arsene Wenger’s side have already made contact with Real over the French international, but that business is understood to be getting underway next week.

With big deals for the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in the last few years, Arsenal fans will be delighted to see their club pursuing another big name to improve their squad, with work still needed to turn the team into title challengers, despite two impressive FA Cup wins in a row.

Petr Cech has already been brought in from Chelsea this summer, but more could be added to the Arsenal attack, with attacking midfielder Alexis Sanchez finishing as the club’s top scorer in 2014/15 and looking in need of a world class strike partner.
