Will Arsene Wenger give this forgotten star the chance to shine vs. Swansea City?

A bitter loss for Arsenal in the Capital One Cup added injury to insult with Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set for spells on the sidelines. However, the injuries to the two Arsenal stars could provide forgotten man Joel Campbell with his chance to shine.

According to the Metro, 23-year-old is angling to start for Arsenal against Swansea City this weekend and Arsene Wenger has declared that the Costa Rican star is very much in the mix.

“My options are Campbell or put another defensive midfielder such as Flamini or put Cazorla on the flank,” Wenger said at a press conference.

Wenger complimented Campbell on his versatility, noting that that his young winger can play center-forward when needed. The Arsenal boss added that Campbell could become a key player for the team in the coming months.

“I have been very impressed with him. His desire to improve has been fantastic. He can play centre-forward as well. I think he can be a big help in the next two or three months.”

Campbell first joined Arsenal in 2011 but did not obtain a work permit to play in England, forcing Arsenal to loan him out to FC Lorient and Real Betis in various spells through 2013. After finally earning his permit, Campbell played on loan for Olympiacos before finally making his debut for Arsenal.

Since 2014, Campbell has just over a dozen appearances for Arsenal in all competitions. He has yet to appear in the Premier League this season.
