Arsenal squad could soon become even more depleted as Arsene Wenger agrees to let go of one of his five senior forwards

Arsenal currently have five senior forwards in their squad.

Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and Joel Campbell make up Arsene Wenger’s over-21 attacking quintet.

Having five senior forwards might seem like enough, but Welbeck is injured for a long time and, in truth, only one of the remaining four – Giroud – is competent in the lead frontman role, with the others better suited playing in behind.

The reality is that Arsenal need to be bolstering their attacking options this summer, not weakening them.

However, reports in Portugal claim that the Gunners are set to offload Campbell.

According to O Jogo, Arsenal have agreed to send Campbell to Sporting Lisbon on a season-long loan.

Campbell has hardly been given a fair crack of the whip at Arsenal.

The 24-year-old Costa Rican has already been loaned out four times since joining the Gunners five years ago.

He’s impressed many fans when he has had a decent run in Wenger’s team, but the manager is seemingly not satisfied.

Disillusioned Arsenal supporters could well turn against Wenger even more when Campbell leaves.

However, positive Gooners may see this as a sign than the club are making space for a new marquee signing.

It’s good to dream.
