Six Arsenal stars facing potential axe as part of Unai Emery reshuffle

Unai Emery has been busy strengthening his Arsenal squad so far this summer, but reports claim that the Spaniard could also preparing to axe a number of players too.

The Gunners have already officially announced the signings of Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Stephan Lichsteiner, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi this summer.

All defensively-minded, it’s evident that Emery has identified that area of the squad as a vulnerability and given Arsenal had the worst defensive record of the top seven sides in the Premier League last season, he would be right.

Nevertheless, perhaps in a move to raise further funds or to merely cut down the numbers in his squad, The Telegraph report that Danny Welbeck, David Ospina, Lucas Perez, Carl Jenkinson, Chuba Akpom and Joel Campbell are all potentially on their way out of the Emirates.

Given Arsenal missed out on Champions League football in consecutive seasons under former boss Arsene Wenger, major changes were arguably needed at the club and it appears as though they could continue to be made under Emery this summer.

Much will of course depend on the level of interest in those players, but it would appear as though they are considered expendable, and rightly so given all six are on the fringes of the starting line-up and have struggled previously to enjoy a sustained run in the side.

Emery will have a difficult challenge on his hands next season to make a positive start to his Arsenal tenure and get the club moving in the right direction. A key factor in that will be to get his ideal squad in place in order to play his preferred style of football and importantly to get the desired results. It seems the six names mentioned above may not feature in those plans.
