Speaking to the media on Tuesday during his press conference, the former Lyon boss insisted that Villa will need to find their form and put together a significant run if they are to escape relegation, as reported by Sky Sports.

The club currently sit bottom of the Premier League table after collecting just seven points from their first 17 games of the season.

That poor run of form under former boss Tim Sherwood and Garde has seen them win just one league game all season which came on the opening day against Bournemouth.

As their struggles continue, the likes of Newcastle United and Norwich City have opened up a 10-point gap in 17th place, and so Garde will be under immense pressure to guide the club out of the bottom three before the end of the season.

Having secured a draw with Newcastle last time out, Villa will hope to build on that result when they host West Ham United at Villa Park on Boxing Day.

However, they also face key games against Norwich and Sunderland over the Christmas period, and ultimately those encounters could determine whether or not they have any chance of staying in the top flight next season.

Garde believes that if his players are able to reach at least 36 points by May, then they will have a chance of ensuring that they are not featuring in the Championship next year.
