Joel Campbell goal video v Sunderland: Arsenal man stakes claim for new contract with classy equaliser

Joel Campbell strengthened his negotiating position for a new contract at Arsenal with an equalising goal in their FA Cup third-round tie at home to Sunderland this afternoon.

The Costa Rican, who has been offered a new £60,000-per-week deal at the Emirates according to The Express, cancelled out a 17th-minute opener from Jeremain Lens with this classy finish.

Theo Walcott got to the byline and pulled an inviting cross back for Campbell, who showed great technique to find the bottom corner with a first-time strike of the bouncing ball.

This evening might be the perfect time for Campbell to ask for more money, although £60,000 a week already seems excessive for a forward who has only scored three goals for Arsenal.

He has been with the Gunners for over four years, but all of those goals have come since October 31, coinciding with an overdue run in the first team after a couple of loans to La Liga.

Arsene Wenger’s back-to-back winners are looking to become the first team to lift the FA Cup in three consecutive seasons since Blackburn Rovers managed that feat during the 1880s.
