Tottenham transfer news: Reject set for Spurs exit; another Pochettino flop not going anywhere

Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of cashing in on defensive flop Federico Fazio, although another Spurs defender, Kevin Wimmer, looks set to stay at the club.

According to the Mirror, versatile Argentine defender Fazio—who signed for the north London heavyweights only 17 months ago in an £8 million deal from Sevilla [via The Guardian]—is in ‘advanced talks’ to rejoin his former club and end his unhappy stay in England.

While the vast majority of players brought to Tottenham in the last 18 months have been broad successes, Fazio has appeared uncomfortable in possession, ungainly when holding the defensive line and slow on the turn, characteristics that have too often made Spurs’ defence weaker for his inclusion.

The signing of Toby Alderweireld during the summer has further reduced the international’s game time, and the 28-year-old has managed just one league cup appearance so far this season.

He looks set to end his underwhelming stay at White Hart Lane imminently.

Wimmer has been equally unimpressive since moving to north London from Koln during the summer.

The 23-year-old has featured just four times—all in cup competitions—and is therefore still awaiting his Premier League debut.

However, the tabloid note that the Austria international will not be allowed to leave the club, despite interest from Stuttgart and Olympique de Marseille.
