Coach justifies €50m fee for South American attacker linked to Liverpool & makes Di Maria comparison

Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu has insisted that Alex Teixeira is worth €50 million [fee via Four Four Two] and suggested that he can be even better than Paris Saint-Germain forward Angel Di Maria.

The Brazil forward has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks, with the Mirror reporting earlier in the month that, having had an initial bid of £24.6 million for the attacker, Liverpool would be willing to strike a £30 million compromise with Shakhtar in order to recruit the forward.

However, the tabloid noted that the Ukraine heavyweights are holding out for £37.6 million for the Brazilian, and it remains to be seen whether Shakhtar or Liverpool will budge in their respective valuations of the player.

Speaking to Four Four Two [as above], the Romanian manager—who has overseen much of Teixeira’s development at Shakhtar—has expressed his conviction that the 26-year-old is well worth the Ukrainian side’s asking price.

“He’s worth €50m,” the head coach insisted. “He’s incredible, very fast, very good technique.”

Remarkably, and excitingly for Liverpool fans, Teixeira’s manager went on to predict that the player could emulate—or even surpass—PSG superstar Di Maria.

“I compare him with other players of the same age who changed [the fortunes of] a club, Di Maria for example at Paris Saint Germain,” Lucescu continued, extolling the virtues of the attacker, who’s scored 26 goals in 25 games so far this term.

“Teixeira can be at the same level, better even. He doesn’t get injured, and every year he gets better and better.”
