Video: Man United 1-0 Crystal Palace – Damien Delaney plays striker and scores for the Red Devils

Apparently Man United have found yet another striker to join their ranks as Crystal Palace defender Damien Delaney demonstrated his loyalty to the club during the Eagles’ visit to Old Trafford.

Joking aside, while any own goal is going to have a case made for ‘worst ever,’ Delaney’s was a special kind of awful as he actually made a football move that made him seem more like a forward than a defender.

On the play in question, Delaney tried to clear a cross from Matteo Darmian, but instead of kicking it into the middle of the field or even out of play for a corner, he smashed it right past goalkeeper Julian Speroni and into his own net.

According to stats from Squawka, the two own goals for Man United currently account for the second-most first-half goals by Man United this season with two – behind only Marcus Rashford’s three. Memphis Depay, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard each have one.

Ironically, Delaney almost had a second own goal later in the match at the 32′ mark.
