Manchester United must get edge on Arsenal in fullback transfer battle

In last night’s snoozefest 0-0 against Liverpool, Manchester United played with Antonio Valencia at right back tonight and Daley Blind at left back. While United were setting up defensively, it’s painful how limited they are by their awful options at full back. Jose Mourinho needs players in both those positions, and could do much worse than looking at Monaco’s Djibril Sidibe.

The Frenchman is having a great season and can play on either side of the back four, an invaluable asset. He’s fast and technically good, and competent in the air. His manager Leonardo Jardim is a good defensive coach and is improving his awareness steadily. Sidibe has made 8 appearances for Monaco this season, scoring one goal.

Arsenal failed with a bid the recently capped France international, and may well still be interested in him. Manchester United should swoop in January before Arsene Wenger tries again, and before the 24-year-old’s price rises further.
