Southampton vs Manchester City starting lineups: Kompany and Toure start as Guardiola calls upon the old guard

Manchester City visit Southampton this evening as they look to cement their place in the top four.

Local rivals Manchester United are hot on their heels and currently sit just four points behind City, with a game in had. However, United face a stern test this weekend as they host Chelsea – Pep Guardiola’s men would put plenty of pressure on them with a result today.

Southampton will not roll-over for the two-time Premier League champions, however. The Saints’ hopes of securing European football for next season are all-but over, but Claude Puel will undoubtedly be keen to see his side finish strongly. That ambition is reflected in the starting side he has named for today’s game.

Puel has fielded a full-strength side, including the Premier League’s hottest property Manolo Gabbiadini. As for Man City, Guardiola has opted to hand both Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure a chance from the beginning.
