Man Utd and Chelsea suffer huge transfer blow in race to sign £100m target

Man Utd and Chelsea will reportedly face further competition for the signing of Romelu Lukaku this summer, with Bayern Munich also keen on the striker.

Both Premier League clubs are in the market for a world-class forward, with United particularly in need after seeing Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffer a serious knee injury to end last season.

With question marks over Diego Costa’s future at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea could also be keen, as noted by the Manchester Evening News, but Bayern’s introduction to the race could complicate matters for both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

It’s added that the 24-year-old’s father is particularly keen on a move to Bavaria, and it will certainly represent his best opportunity to win silverware on a regular basis, at least domestically with Bayern expected to dominate each year.

However, it’s questionable as to whether or not the Belgian international would want to leave England and the Premier League, albeit that he’s insisted that he wants to play regularly in the Champions League and joining Bayern would help him do that.

The report adds that Lukaku has rejected a £140,000-a-week deal from Everton and in turn the club has placed a £100m price-tag on him if interested parties want to try and prise him away from Goodison Park.

It’s questionable as to whether any club will actually pay that figure, even though they’d be buying a prolific goalscorer who bagged 25 league goals this past season.

It may well require some creativity with the offer whether that be clauses or player exchanges, but for now it sounds as though Bayern are ready to rival Man Utd and Chelsea for the signing of Lukaku.
