So this is why Ozil hasn’t signed a new contract…
Arsenal star Mesut Ozil may be one of the best playmakers in the world on his day, but many have questioned his attitude during his time at the Emirates Stadium.
The Germany international doesn’t seem the biggest fighter on the pitch, and has a tendency to go missing when it matters most, though this latest revelation might be the most shocking example yet of his weak mentality.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Ozil is weighing up a move to Manchester United as an option in the near future, with his contract at Arsenal due to expire in the summer.
The report also claims that one of the main reasons the 29-year-old is yet to agree on a new deal with the Gunners is because he’s fixated on being given Jack Wilshere’s number 10 shirt instead of his current 11.
MEN claim there has been no progress on talks between Ozil and Arsenal since March, and if he were to end up at United because of something like that, many fans may well feel it’s best if he does go.
Could Ozil get the 10 shirt elsewhere?
Zlatan Ibrahimovic currently holds the number 10 shirt at Old Trafford but is also out of contract at the end of the season, while MEN list Real Madrid and Barcelona as the other two clubs Ozil would consider joining.
It remains to be seen if Ozil could wrestle the 10 shirt off Luka Modric at Real, and good luck getting it off Lionel Messi at Barca!
United are reported not to have made a concrete approach for Ozil for the moment, while it is also claimed Arsenal would not consider selling one of their star players to a rival in the middle of the season.
