Manchester United enter running for impressive midfielder, could hijack South American’s La Liga transfer

Manchester United are reportedly interested in sealing the January transfer of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, with his camp supposedly offering him to La Liga clubs.

According to the Daily Mirror, Fred could now have his head turned by an offer from the Premier League despite interest from Sevilla and Valencia after his fine form in Ukraine.

United boss Jose Mourinho may need to bring someone in pretty urgently this winter amid fears over Marouane Fellaini’s future, and Fred looks an ideal replacement in that position.

The Red Devils have also had their injury struggles this term, with Paul Pogba out since September and Fellaini also spending some time on the sidelines.

The Mirror claim a deal is now in place for Fellaini to move to Besiktas in January, and it seems Fred is emerging as one of the club’s priority choices to replace the Belgian.

Don Balon also recently linked United with an interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, though a deal for the Spaniard may be slightly more ambitious.

Mourinho brought in Nemanja Matic from Chelsea in the summer, but could still do with further reinforcements in that area.
