Real Madrid have reportedly passed up the chance to seal the transfer of Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez this January in a move that surely pushes him closer to Manchester United.
The Daily Star have linked Sanchez with United in a potential swap deal, while the Manchester Evening News also suggest a deal may be edging closer as Arsenal instead look to replace the Chilean with Bordeaux forward Malcom.
Either way, Don Balon claim Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was not keen on swooping for Sanchez despite his low asking price, with the Spaniard instead focusing his attention on Harry Kane and Mauro Icardi up front.
Arsenal fans will be fuming that an opportunity has been missed for Sanchez to move abroad, as he will now surely end up strengthening a Premier League rival.

The 29-year-old is out of contract in the summer and will then be free to move on a Bosman transfer to whomever he wants.
For now, however, Arsenal could still cash in on the player and have some control over his next move, but it seems Real are bizarrely not interested.
With Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo not at their best this season, it could be argued that Sanchez would have been just the upgrade Zinedine Zidane needs in that area.
Perez, however, clearly doesn’t agree and Don Balon link him instead with raids for more out-and-out centre-forwards in the form of Kane and Icardi.
