Arsenal in contract talks with former Gunners ace ahead of potential free transfer return

Arsenal have reportedly offered a contract to Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup and are waiting for his response as they hope to re-sign the former Gunner on a free transfer.

The 25-year-old is currently heading towards being a free agent in the summer and sources in Turkey claim he’s attracting interest from his former employers.

Ozyakup never played in the Premier League in his first spell at the Emirates Stadium, but his form for Besiktas has clearly impressed Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal are now hoping for a reply after holding initial talks over a contract for Ozyakup were he to make his way back to north London, according to Aksam, as translated by the Daily Mirror.

This could end up being a smart piece of business by the Gunners if they pull it off, with the club able to enjoy the benefits of one of their former youngsters developing elsewhere without having to pay over the odds to sign him again as a more established performer.

The Turkey international has largely impressed with his midfield performances in recent seasons, looking a polished performer at both ends of the pitch and one who could now move on to a bigger club and a more competitive league.

Still, it may still be that Ozyakup will snub a chance to go back to Arsenal after being let go by them in the past.

It remains to be seen if the Besiktas ace has other offers or if he could even end up opting to stay where he is.
