Man Utd suffer transfer blow over £50m transfer target, new contract touted

As he continues to impress with every step up in quality he faces, Leicester City ace Harry Maguire is reportedly of interest to Man Utd.

The 25-year-old has made a positive impression at club level after his move from Hull City to the King Power Stadium, and having enjoyed a successful World Cup on an individual level with England, it seems as though he has attracted interest from elsewhere.

United had been linked with a £50m move for the England international, as reported by The Daily Mail, with Jose Mourinho seemingly keen to bolster his defensive options despite having plenty at his disposal already.

The Portuguese tactician has Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo in his current squad, and so a move for Maguire doesn’t appear to be entirely necessary.

Nevertheless, he may be left disappointed anyway as Leicester are reportedly set to do what they can to convince their centre-half to stay, with The Mirror noting that he could be offered a new £100k-a-week contract to fend off interest from Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen if the financial gain is enough to persuade him to remain, or if his desire to win trophies is stronger as Man Utd will certainly offer him a better opportunity of doing so than Leicester.

Nevertheless, as he continues to establish himself as a regular for club and country with the Foxes, the counter-argument will be that he’s settled and playing some of the best football of his career. Disrupting that could be a mistake.
