AC Milan transfer news: Key target wants move, midfield duo on radar

It’s been quite the week for AC Milan, as after officially unveiling Gonzalo Higuain and Mattia Caldara on Thursday, Paolo Maldini’s return to the club was announced at the weekend.

The Rossoneri appear to be in a positive moment after Elliott Management took control from former owner Yonghong Li last month, with the hedge fund also successfully overseeing the club’s European ban being overturned by CAS.

In turn, supporters will be hoping for even more good news before the transfer deadline passes later this month, with the Serie A campaign getting underway in a fortnight.

According to Calciomercato, via Sport Mediaset, it would appear as though sporting director Leonardo is doing his best to make that happen as it’s claimed that Milan have set their sights on Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot or Lazio ace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Gennaro Gattuso undoubtedly lacks quality depth in the midfield department given his heavy reliance on preferred trio Giacomo Bonaventura, Lucas Biglia and Franck Kessie last season and so either Rabiot or Milinkovic-Savic will be seen as a fundamental addition to help them compete on various fronts.

With La Gazzetta dello Sport also suggesting that Leonardo is pushing for Rabiot, it remains to be seen whether or not a deal can be done to prise the Frenchman away from Paris and to see him add real technical quality and creative class to the midfield.

Meanwhile, Milan are seemingly set to complete another summer signing as soon as they opt to green light it with Calciomercato reporting that Brazilian winger Bernard wants a move to the San Siro and developments are expected next week.

The 25-year-old scored 10 goals while providing four assists in 29 games last season, and with his Shakhtar Donetsk contract expiring earlier this summer, he will be available on a free transfer.

Given he is capable of offering pace and movement out wide, something that Milan currently lack in the likes of Suso and Hakan Calhanoglu, he could prove to be a very sensible addition.
