Real Madrid are reportedly the only contender remaining in the running to seal the transfer of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer.
According to Goal, other clubs such as Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain look to have been priced out of a move, while Manchester United’s chances have gone for the time being as they looked at the Serbia international to replace Paul Pogba before the English transfer window deadline passed.
This now leaves Real Madrid as the only realistic candidate remaining, says Goal, though even that will likely hinge on whether or not they end up selling Luka Modric to Inter Milan before the end of the month.
There has been talk of this transfer being on the cards, and if it were to happen then there’s no doubt Milinkovic-Savic, 23, would be a superb long-term replacement for the Croatian midfield maestro.
It remains to be seen if this ambitious deal can still be pulled off in the coming weeks, with Goal suggesting it would likely cost up to €110million, though Madrid have perhaps been boosted by the player’s desire to move to a club in contention to win the Champions League.
This kind of price has also been talked about by outlets like Calciomercato, who also report of interest from AC Milan in the player.
Real have had a relatively quiet summer by their standards this year, losing Cristiano Ronaldo and only really bringing in new goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois as their most high-profile signing.
Having finished third in La Liga last season, they could probably do with more investment to give themselves a realistic shot of reclaiming the title back off rivals Barcelona.
