Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi is reportedly ‘like crazy’ to seal a late summer transfer to Real Madrid as the deadline looms.
La Liga clubs have until August 31 to sign players, though the transfer window has already closed for Serie A sides, meaning Inter would be unable to sign a replacement.
According to Don Balon, a deal for Real Madrid to sign Icardi also looks unlikely because of the player’s high asking price, which makes sense especially if his team cannot replace him until January.
The report also mentions other options for Los Blancos, such as Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata, though they’re not keen on that either.
RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner is also mentioned by Don Balon, and may be the most realistic option at this point as Bundesliga clubs also have until the end of the month to sign new players.
Madrid urgently need a new goal-scorer after losing Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus this summer, and with Karim Benzema suffering a significant dip in form in front of goal last season.
Icardi would perhaps be the most tempting big-name option on this list, but it looks a tad ambitious for Real to get this done in the next few days.
