Manchester United legend ‘shocked’ by first-half display vs Tottenham

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville was pleasantly surprised by the Red Devils first-half display against Tottenham at Old Trafford.

The two teams have been going toe to toe on tonight’s edition of Monday Night Football on Sky Sports, with the score currently in Tottenham’s favour at 2-0 after a catastrophic start to the second half for Manchester United.

Spurs came into this game off the back of two league wins against Newcastle and Fulham, while United sat on three points after their opening fixtures after beating Leicester city but losing to Brighton and Hove Albion.

In the first half of tonight’s clash, Jose Mourinho’s men had the upper hand and should really have gone in at the break a goal up, after Romelu Lukakau missed an open goal after rounding Hugo Lloris in between the sticks for Tottenham.

According to club legend Neville, United put in a good performance which he believes marked a change in their style under the Portuguese boss, as he told Sky Sports: “It’s probably the quickest I’ve seen United play off the ball, in terms of intensity, for the last 6 years. It’s absolutely shocked me. It’s been brilliant to watch”

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have managed to completely shift the momentum in the game in the second half, however, which will come as a huge kick in the teeth for Mourinho given the fact that he had finally managed to produce the attacking football which supporters have craved during the first 45 minutes of the match.

With only twenty minutes remaining the United boss must surely go for broke in pursuit of a way back into the game or face another week of questions over his future in the wake of another disappointing defeat.
