Chelsea are reportedly set for talks today over deals taking both Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Anselmino to Borussia Dortmund.

The Blues will hold talks with Dortmund today to try to get both deals done, with Chukwuemeka set to join Dortmund permanently, while Anselmino will only be going there on loan.

Fabrizio Romano has posted on X about the details of the deals, with Chukwuemeka expected to move for a €20m fee, plus various add-ons and a sell-on clause.

This follows the young English midfielder spending time on loan with the Bundesliga giants last season.

Anselmino, meanwhile, will just be a straight loan move with no buy option, according to Romano…

This could be smart business by Chelsea if they manage to get it done, with Chukwuemeka clearly not in their plans, while Anselmino should benefit from the experience of first-team football at a top European club before establishing himself as a regular for Enzo Maresca’s side.

This is not the first time Chelsea and Dortmund have done business in recent times, with Jamie Gittens moving from BVB to CFC earlier this summer.

Ian Maatsen also spent time on loan from Chelsea at Dortmund a couple of years ago, so the clubs seem to have a pretty good relationship.

Going further back, Chelsea also signed Christian Pulisic from Dortmund.

Chelsea trimming down their squad size

It’s important for Chelsea to offload a few names before the end of the summer after so much spending in recent times.

The west London giants have made a lot of changes to their squad again this year, and that’s also left them with a fair few unwanted players from previous transfer windows.

Chukwuemeka’s departure makes sense, and one imagines it will be followed by a few others such as Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell.

Chelsea have also offloaded unneeded players like Joao Felix, Noni Madueke, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Kepa Arrizabalaga in this transfer window.
