Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly open to handing Dejan Kulusevski a new contract, but the Swedish international must first prove that he can return to his best after a lengthy injury absence.
According to a report from Football Insider, Spurs are prepared to discuss an extension with the 26-year-old if he can return consistently to first-team football.
Dejan Kulusevski faces crucial Tottenham test
Kulusevski has recently returned to training after spending a significant period on the sidelines with a serious knee injury. Tottenham are pleased to see him back with the squad, but the club are understood to be taking a cautious approach regarding his long-term future.
The former Juventus player remains under contract until 2028, so there is no immediate pressure to decide. However, Spurs will want to see how he performs once he is fully available before committing to another long-term deal.
Kulusevski was an important player for Tottenham before his injury, producing seven goals and four assists in his last Premier League campaign. His ability to operate in wide areas and contribute creatively could make him a valuable option for Roberto De Zerbi once he reaches full fitness.
The biggest question now is whether he can return to the level he showed before suffering his injury.

Kulusevski’s Tottenham future remains uncertain
Tottenham also have James Maddison to consider, with the midfielder facing a similar situation after spending a considerable amount of time out of action.
Both players remain tied to the club for now, but their long-term futures could become a major talking point if they struggle to regain fitness.
For Kulusevski, the immediate priority will be getting back onto the pitch and gradually rebuilding his rhythm. If he stays fit and regains his previous form, Tottenham could have a strong reason to extend his stay beyond his current contract.
For now, however, Spurs appear willing to wait and see how his recovery develops before making a final commitment.
