Real Madrid are reportedly looking into a potential transfer move for Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay, who has also been linked with a return to Manchester United.
McTominay’s Napoli future looks in some doubt at the moment, with the Scotland international now perhaps set for a reunion with former Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Real have surprisingly joined the race for McTominay’s signature by making an enquiry about his situation, with the 29-year-old yet to agree a new contract with his current club.
This follows United and other Premier League clubs being linked with McTominay by Sacha Tavolieri, who has reported that the former Red Devils ace is keen to come back to England.
Scott McTominay to join Real Madrid’s Galacticos?
Even if he’s a fine player, McTominay doesn’t exactly scream ‘Galactico’, so the links with Real Madrid do feel a bit odd.
Still, perhaps Madrid boss Mourinho is keen to work with his former player again after being influential in bringing him into the first-team when they were together at Old Trafford.
McTominay has continued to shine since then, becoming an underrated part of the United team and playing some of his best football since his move to Napoli.
The former United man has 27 goals in 82 games for the Italian giants, and his form contributed towards an impressive Serie A title victory in 2024/25.
If McTominay is now keen to come back to the Premier League, then that obviously harms Real’s chances, but perhaps Mourinho can tempt him.
Playing for Real Madrid is also a unique opportunity that surely won’t come again, so McTominay would be mad not to at least consider it.
