Marlon King Jailed: Wigan Athletic Striker Given 18 Month Sentence for Sexual Assault

Wigan Athletic striker Marlon King has been jailed for 18 months after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman and causing actual bodily harm.
The former Gillingham and Nottingham Forest front-man had been accused of groping a woman in a bar, before breaking her nose after she rejected his advances.
King was unanimously convicted by the jury at Southwark Crown Court, with the victim – a 20-year-old student – and two of her friends present.
The striker was given an 18-month jail sentence in 2002 for handling a stolen £32,000 BMW convertible.
The sentence was reduced to five months on appeal.
Latics’ chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed that he will terminate the player’s contract following his conviction. (Four Four Two)
Good to see that Wigan Athletic have ended the players contract but what are the odds that the moment he is freed, probably after serving less than half of the sentence, another side quickly signs him up for the start of next season!

I’m willing to bet he’ll be a bargain bucket buy for a promoted club next season.

At first I thought the sentence was a bit steep. Steven Gerrard was found not guilty despite video evidence and Joey Barton got just 6 months for a serious assault.
But I forgot Marlon had that previous conviction which I assume must have lengthened his sentence this time.
Once bitten, apparently not twice shy.

Judging by that record he has got a career writing sports columns after as well.

I don’t think the sentence was harsh at all. He acted like he was entitled to a woman’s body, sexually assaulted her and then broke her nose when she didn’t accept it. He’s a disgrace.

Marlon used to be a hero of mine at Watford but that type of behaviour is totally unacceptable. He does not appear to have been provoked in any way and there are no mitigating circumstances.
As a player he was the best player Watford have had in the last ten yea
rs. When in the premiership he missed a large part of the seSon due to a knee injury. At the time there were rumour that he had been involved in fight in west London.
I hope he sorts himself out but he had gone down a long way in my estimation .

Unfortunately he will receive protection at our expense, probably serve a third of his sentence and have a nice cushy ride. While his victim i am sure will be affected by his actions for a lot longer!

We like to think that famous people are all good and have no ill feeling in them but we all know this to be wrong. This man was given a talent most of us dream of and he thrown it all away. The term seems to fit the crime imo and any previous convictions are not allowed to influence the jury so I am sure they would not have heard about the other attacks and the BMW just the cowardly attack on a young woman where he punched her in the face breaking her nose and scarring her for life. He is now on the sex offender register and I can’t believe that any club would have this guy playing for their club where women will watch and work, a place where other footballers will have to play with this guy, always thinking about their own wife’s, girlfriends or daughters. The guy will be 30 when he comes out and bad news all round, I would stop watching my team if they signed this guy and I would hope that any club would think about the fans and workers before their pockets. His wife is going to stand by him as he is innocent, he at least has one supporter oh no it’s 2 as his manager says it was mistaken identity.
