Barcelona have confirmed today a £25m a year deal with Qatar Airways to become the club’s official shirt sponsors for the 2013/14 seasons onwards.
This is the first corporate shirt sponsorship deal the Catalan club have agreed in the 113 year history of the club as the Qatar airline will replace charity Qatar Foundation from next season.
The deal has apparently upset many Barcelona fans who feel that such a move not in keeping with the club’s ethos.
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell stated:
‘We are delighted to be working with Qatar Airways. We share lots of values, and one of them is the search for excellence. We have lots of supporters and Qatar have lots of customers.’
‘This deal is good for our club, good for our city and good for our country.’
