Ibrahim Afellay could be set to disappoint a host of Premier League clubs by remaining with Schalke according to talkSport.

The Dutch midfielder is currently plying his trade for the Bundesliga side after joining the club from Barcelona last summer in a season-long loan deal.

The Dutch star struggled to make an impact at the Nou Camp, finding himself behind the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Pedro and Alexis Sanchez in the Barcelona pecking order.

Afellay has put in a number of impressive performances this season though for Schalke and has been attracting the attention of a host of Premier League sides.

The player’s progress has been curtailed in recent weeks as Afellay has struggled with injuries but that has reportedly not been enough to put off his potential suitors.

The likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham have all been strong linked with the player but the Dutch player’s agent revealed nothing more than that his future is undecided.

Afellay’s agent hinted that the player would prefer to remain at Schalke insisting the need for talks between the Bundesliga and his parent-side Barcelona before his future is decided.

Barcelona signed Afellay from PSV Eindhoven in 2010 for around £2.5 million but it is thought the Catalan giants would demand an increased amount to part ways with the player.
