Former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini could be set for a return to the Premier League according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The 29 year old is currently playing his trade in Italy with Serie A side AC Milan.

But the French midfielder’s contract is due to expire at the end of the current campaign and the Italian giants have given no suggestion that he will be offered a new deal.

That is presenting the prospect of the experienced French international player becoming available on a free transfer and Flamini is reported to be interesting a number of Premier League sides.

Southamton are reportedly monitoring the player’s availability ahead of a summer move as boss Mauricio Pochettino is firm admirer of the touch tackling midfielder.

But they are set to face competition for Paul Lambert’s Aston Villa, provided the Midlands club remain in the Premier League.

Flamini upset many Arsenal fans when he decided to leave the club on a free transfer in 2008. The player has since failed to really establish himself at the San Siro and has found his first team opportunities limited in recent times.

French side Marseille are also reportedly keen to tempt the player back to his homeland.
