Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has reiterated his desire to leave this summer after the club claimed that they were still hopeful of keeping him, according to The Express.

The 31-year-old has been on the radar of Arsenal who are desperately seeking a new goalkeeper and have been linked with the Spanish international for months.

However, the club had made it known that they were hoping to convince the stopper to stay with them for another year before letting his contract run out next summer. There had been a suggestion that he could change his mind and perform a dramatic U-turn following the side’s 7-0 hammering at the hands of Champions League rivals Bayern Munich, but Valdes has once again brushed off their advances to reaffirm his desire to move on to a new challenge at the end of the current campaign.

Arsenal remains his likely destination, though he still has some way to go to agreeing the exit with his current employers before any talks can take place with the North London outfit.

Barcelona have been rumoured to be looking into the possibility of moving for Liverpool custodian Pepe Reina as a replacement for Valdes.
