Juventus may be tempted to make an offer of £17million for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez if they miss out on Gonzalo Higuain, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Mexican has not been a regular starter at United this season, leading to speculation that he might be set for a move elsewhere, with several big clubs said to be admirers of his talents.

The 24-year-old has gained a reputation as a lethal finisher, but has been unfortunate to find himself out of favour with Sir Alex Ferguson, and it is not yet clear if he features in the plans of new United boss David Moyes.

Juventus are keen to strengthen their squad with some big names this summer after winning a second Serie A title in a row, and a striker is top of the agenda with Real Madrid’s Higuain said to be their main target.

However, with Arsenal also showing strong interest in the £22million Argentine, Juve see Hernandez as a decent backup option. Coincidentally, the former Guadalajara player is also being considered by Real Madrid as a replacement for the transfer-listed Higuain.

Juventus have also been monitoring the situation of United winger Nani, another talented player who hasn’t had the best of times at Old Trafford of late.
