Sunderland Pull Out of Move for Argentine Gino Peruzzi After Failed Medical

Black Cats won’t be signing Velez centre-back.

Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

Sunderland have opted not to sign Argentine defender Gino Peruzzi after the player failed a medical and then flew to Italy for scans according to the Northern Echo.

The medical revealed ligament damage sustained last season, which left the full back sidelined for several weeks. Following the scans in Italy, it was reported Sunderland were now keen to get the Velez star to pen a deal with a club, but now Di Canio has pulled out of the £5million deal.

The newly appointed Black Cats boss could not see a future for Peruzzi due to his injury problems, telling reporters : “At the moment, there is no chance for Gino Peruzzi to join us.”

“My club is not a club that can sign players with problems. We are not Manchester City, who can think about buying a talented player with an injury and wait for him.”

“We are not very late [in to the transfer window], but I would like a player ready to join the rest of the group because the process of integration is not just physical. They have to understand how we play, which is not easy.”

Sunderland are now left with only one right back, Phil Bardsley – who is out of sorts at the club anyway. With the unlikelyhood of a deal for Spurs defender Danny Rose being made, it appears Di Canio and his scouting team are going to have to look elsewhere for defensive depth to help his campaign for next season.

Paolo will be desperate to improve following the Black Cats’ 17th placed finish last season, which saw fellow strugglers and bitter rivals Newcastle United finish above them.
