Italian giants Inter Milan and Napoli are set to go head to head in a battle to sign Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o according to Italian newspaper La Stampa.

The Cameroonian star has just been made available for sale, alongside all of his team-mates, by the Russian club.

Anzhi are looking to try a different approach to the game and are looking to slash their budget in half.

That is likely to see the club’s top names move on with Eto’o likely to be first out of the door.

The striker is currently the highest paid player in the world, and while there are no shortage of admirers of his ability, his wages could prove to be a potential obstacle to any transfer.

Inter Milan would be keen for Eto’o to return to the San Siro but would struggle to put together a financial package.

That could pave the way for a move to Napoli, though the club have recently signed Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid.

The club are able to splash the cash though having sold Edinson Cavani to PSG and may decide to dip into the transfer market once more.

Chelsea are also thought to be taking a looking at the player.
