The west Midlands hierarchy, including chairman Jeremy Peace, have already met twice before with the 50-year-old, and it is understood that the club will formally conform Mel’s appointment after this Saturday’s Premier League fixture with fellow strugglers West Ham United.
Mel, who was recently sacked by La Liga outfit Real Betis after a three-year spell in charge of the side from Sevilla, watched the Baggies draw 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur on Boxing Day.
