Man United could well do with freshening up their midfield and the likes of Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley and Shinji Kagawa may all be fighting for their futures at the club and as such a move for reinforcements in the area make a great deal of sense.

Whilst it’s true that Fabregas is often hauled off and does occasionally fail to make it into Gerardo Martino’s starting eleven for key games the simple fact is that the former Arsenal man has played more football for Barcelona than any other outfield player and is the club’s leading assist maker.

However Fabregas has become something of a scapegoat for Barcelona’s average campaign and has been the subject of some abuse from the Nou Camp faithful but whether that will lead to the 26 year old demanding an exit this summer is another matter.

Man United’s owners are reportedly ready to offer a massive £200m transfer war-chest to whomever permanent succeeds David Moyes as boss and that may go someway to improving the club’s under-performing squad.
