Manchester United are set to step up their interests in signing both Alexis Sanchez and Jordi Alba from Barcelona this summer, according to Marca.

The Red Devils have a long-standing interest in Chilean star Sanchez, who looks likely to be available for a knock-down price of around £14.5m despite just having his best season in a Barcelona shirt, while Alba has only recently emerged as a target as talks have stalled on a potential deal for Southampton youngster Luke Shaw to move to Old Trafford.

There is set to be a mass cull of several first-team players at the Nou Camp this summer after a highly disappointing campaign in 2013/14, while United are also set to make major efforts to rebuild after struggling in their first season following the retirement of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

New man at the helm Louis van Gaal is keen to bring in both a left-back and a winger to enhance his squad, and it now looks increasingly likely that he will make Sanchez and Alba his two main priority targets for those positions.

It is claimed that Alba could be available for just over £24m, which would be cheaper than the rumoured £27m that United were ready to pay for Saints left-back Shaw, who will not be allowed to leave the St Mary’s Stadium until the club appoint a new manager.
