Former Real Madrid man set for Nou Camp switch?
Spanish source Marca are reporting that former Real Madrid man Gonzalo Higuain is set to complete a €40m deal to sign for Barcelona.
Such a move would be a huge surprise for a number of reasons.
One the 26 year old Argentine only moved to Naples a year ago and had a solid first season with the Italian side, scoring 24 goals in all competitions and secondly given that he is a former Bernabeu star such a move to the Catalan side even less likely.
Higuain helped Rafa Benitez’s side to a healthy third place finish in Serie A and a Coppa Italia triumph and is currently part of the Argentine national team set-up at the World Cup finals.
Barcelona may well be looking for another striking threat and incoming boss Luis Enrique may be considering the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Pedro whilst one imagines both Neymar and Lionel Messi are safe from the chop.
Perhaps Messi has recommended his fellow countryman to Enrique as a potential attacking star worth targeting.
Prior to his move to Italy Higuain spent seven seasons at Real Madrid but was in and out of the first team for a fair chunk of that time but still registered 122 goals in 256 appearances.
