Joel Campbell will ask Arsenal for a deadline day move away from the club due to the fact that he has grown frustrated with his lack of first-team football.

Despite manager Arsene Wenger recently stating that he wants to keep the Costa Rica international at the club – as reported by the Daily Mail – he is desperate to move, with Benfica his most likely destination.

Reports in Portugal claim that Campbell is pushing for the switch after claiming that he will not receive enough first-team opportunities this season.

Both Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott are currently sidelined through injury, but the player has still made just one substitute appearance in the Gunners’ first four matches.

“We’ve had lots of enquiries and turned them down. There have been plenty of clubs interested, but I don’t know how many,” Gunners boss Wenger said yesterday. “Once I say to my assistant he won’t go out on loan, even if people ask about him, my assistant doesn’t even tell me. When I say no it’s no.”

Last night, Arsenal submitted a late bid for Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy, who is thought to be on the verge of a move to Chelsea, and it’s possible that, having previously stated that he would not be signing a striker this summer, that Campbell’s desire to leave has sparked Wenger’s interest.

If Campbell were to go, it would leave Arsenal with Alexis Sanchez, Yaya Sanogo and Lukas Podolski as their only fit forward players.
