The 18 year old Croatian international moved from Dinamo Zagreb to the Nou Camp in the summer but perhaps unsurprisingly hasn’t easily forced his way into Luis Enrique’s first team set-up.

With that in mind Black Cats boss Gus Poyet fancies his chances of luring the playmaker to the Stadium of Light, which would take some doing.

Should a permanent move fail the Premier League side would be happy to bring the starlet in on a loan deal and perhaps that’s a move that could suit all parties.

Halilovic is considered one of the hottest young prospects in European football and has been compared to Barca team-mate Lionel Messi.

Barcelona paid just over £1.5m by way of an initial fee for Halilovic and he is currently turning out for their ‘B’ team though is perhaps better than that, after all the youngster does have half a dozen full national team caps to his name.
