Whilst it’s true that Portuguese international Nani has certainly flattered to deceive in recent seasons it’s equally true that the loaned out wide-man is a far superior to talent to Young.

Nani has bagged six goals in 13 appearances since moving back to the Portuguese capital and is a player who could still have an Old Trafford future.

The 28 year old initially struggled to escape from the shadow of national team colleague Cristiano Ronaldo but did play a vital part in Man United’s 2010/11 Premier League title triumph, finishing the season as the leading assist-maker in the English top-tier, and is a player who deserves a second chance at the club.

Young on the other hand has come nowhere near the form that made him stand out at Aston Villa and helped earn him a £17m move to Man United in 2011 and has become more well known for his incessant diving than his ability to make an impact in the final third.

Ashley Young has managed just three goals in his past 60 appearances for the club and has produced just 11 assists in 69 Premier League appearances for Man United.

Though Louis van Gaal has brought in Angel di Maria there is still scope for Nani to offer something to the Dutch boss, not least as youngster Adnan Januzaj doesn’t appear to be a player the Man United boss has all that much faith in.

Young should be farmed out as soon as possible ahead of moves to bring Nani back into the first team fold.
