Back when the Spaniard was in the FC Barcelona youth system the 24-year-old was touted by the English duo and his father has revealed all on their interest.

“I remember (Manchester) United were interested in him when he was 16 at Barcelona,” Bojan senior told the Mail on Sunday.

“Chelsea were very serious, too, a year or two later, just before he signed a new deal.

“Luis Scolari was manager and Frank Arnesen flew out to speak to us. But Bojan only really wanted to play for Barcelona.”

Bojan has had a varied career to date as after progressing into the Barca first team the attacker had loan spells at AC Milan, Ajax and AS Roma.

The Spanish star then left the Nou Camp permanently this summer to join the Potteries, with the presence of Mark Hughes at the Britannia Stadium believed to be main reason the decision was made.

After enjoying an impressive pre-season Bojan struggled to make much impact under Hughes once the campaign started properly, but he now has two goals for his new side.
