Keane was snapped swearing at his own supporters after scoring for LA Galaxy in the MLS’s opening weekend last Friday, an incident which he was fined for yesterday.

“A million percent, it wasn’t at the fans. So whoever said [it was], you can’t speculate on something you don’t know,” Keane told mlssoccer.com.

“It’s not a big deal. It’s nothing. It’s passion.”

The fallout has been rumbling on all week, and two well-known commentators have called for Keane to be stripped of the LA Galaxy armband – something the Irishman was less than impressed about when he heard:

“Who are them guys?” he said. Adding, “That’s good. Next time they ask me to speak, we’ll see.”

His manager has confirmed he will remain as captain this weekend.
