Manchester United transfer news

Manchester United could be close to selling Victor Valdes already, despite only bringing the former Barcelona goalkeeper in in January.

According to the Daily Star, the Spanish shot-stopper is likely to make the transfer to newly-promoted Turkish side Antalyaspor this summer, with the ambitious club already bringing in two other Nou Camp legends in Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto’o.

Valdes has only made two appearances since joining United in the winter, with the 33-year-old perhaps no longer at his best after a lengthy injury following his exit from Barca.

Still, he remains a player with big pedigree in the game, having won a whole host of major honours during his long stay with Barcelona, for whom he made 535 appearances in total.

Valdes’ honours include three Champions League title wins, as well as six La Liga victories, and he has at times been regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Still, with David de Gea ahead of him in Louis van Gaal’s first-team squad, it is little surprise that Valdes may now be looking for a move away to ensure he is playing regularly, and it would no doubt be tempting for any player to link up with old team-mates again after success together in the past.

According to Antalyaspor chief executive Guntekin Gencer, a move for another Barca legend is close.

“We are planning to sign one more ex-Barcelona player of the calibre of Eto’o and Ronaldinho,” he is quoted in the Star. “I can say that an agreement is so close.”
