Chelsea prepare £28m bid for talented Premier League youngster

Stamford Bridge side keen on hot defensive prospect.

Chelsea are ready to launch a £28m bid for Everton defender John Stones according to Goal.com.

The 21-year-old Toffees star, who can play at full-back or in the centre of defence, has impressed since moving to Goodison Park back in January 2013.

Roberto Martinez handed Stones 23 Premier League starts in 2014/15 and the displays put in by the former Barnsley man led to a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s senior England set-up.

Chelsea had already failed with a £20m bid for Stones (via Sky Sports) and Goal.com claim Jose Mourinho is readying a fresh offer for the Everton man.

Last season veteran captain John Terry was at his mercurial best, playing every single minute of Chelsea’s successful Premier League campaign, but at 34 years of age it’s clear the Blues legend is in the latter stages of his glittering career.

Whilst French youngster Kurt Zouma can be used in a central defensive role the former Saint-Etienne man has impressed greatly in a defensive midfield role and his long term future may be better suited to that position.

Stones should think long and hard before considering a move to the West London side as he would have to challenge the likes of the aforementioned Terry as well as Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic for a spot in Mourinho’s starting eleven.

Chelsea have had a relatively quiet summer transfer window thus far with Jose Mourinho having brought in Radamel Falcao on loan from AS Monaco and signed Stoke City keeper Asmir Begovic as well as young Brazilian Kenedy.
