Manchester United goalkeeper set for EXIT, not given shirt number for new season

Manchester United star Victor Valdes hasn’t been given a new shirt number ahead of the new season, reports the Daily Express.

The 33-year-old looks set for the exit door after manager Louis van Gaal claimed he doesn’t conform to his ‘philosophy’. This is despite the pair working together before at Barcelona, and him signing the player last January after a long period training with the team.

“He doesn’t follow my philosophy. There is no place for someone like that,” van Gaal said, “Last year, he refused to play in the second team and there are other aspects you need as a keeper at United. When you are not willing to follow those principles, there is only one way and that is out.”

This is a problematic situation for the Red Devils, with fellow goalkeeper David De Gea also looking close to leaving the club. The 24-year-old is going to be left out of their game with Tottenham due to speculation over a move to Real Madrid [Daily Mail], which could point to an imminent departure.

United have brought Sergio Romero to the club this summer, but the Argentina international wasn’t first choice between the sticks for Sampdoria or AS Monaco in the last two seasons. As a result, it is unlikely that the 28-year-old can be relied upon to do the job regularly in the Premier League.
