Chelsea ‘preparing shock raid on rivals Manchester United in January transfer window’

Blues eager to sign experienced Old Trafford star this January.

Chelsea could make a shock move to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes in the January transfer window, as they seek cover in that position.

The Spanish shot-stopper has been unable to work his way into Louis van Gaal’s starting line up since joining the club last winter, but could now act as a useful stop-gap signing to deal with Thibaut Courtois’ lengthy injury.

The Belgian international is expected to miss anywhere between four to six months of the campaign, and there have already been some doubts over Asmir Begovic’s suitability for the number one spot at Stamford Bridge.

According to the Metro, this could see Chelsea try their luck with a move for Valdes, who has previously shown himself to be one of the finest goalkeepers in world football.
