Man United to battle cross-city neighbours for Bundesliga midfield pass master

Manchester United are set to go up against Manchester City for the signature of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan providing the club don’t sell him to Juventus this month, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

Both sides have shown an interest in his signature in the past, but the Italian giants are looking to beat the Premier League pair to the punch this month by wrapping up their own deal.

However, the former Bundesliga champions are aware that they will likely earn more money for him should there be a three-way tug-of-war for his services and could look to spark off a transfer scramble instead.

City and United will likely wait until the end of the season, though, as both clubs are anticipating having new managers in place come the summer.

It is widely believed that Pep Guardiola will take over from Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad, whilst Louis van Gaal finds himself under increasing pressure at Old Trafford.
