Zidane reveals Real Madrid plans to neutralise exquisite Man City playmaker in UCL semi

Speaking to the media ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League showdown between Manchester City and Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane has revealed how Los Merengues are planning to stop the Citizens’ key men.

Legendary playmaker Zizou was asked by the journalists in attendance about his plans to silence the Sky Blues’ in-form attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, a player who has appeared more than a little reminiscent of Zidane in his pomp in recent fixtures.

“A plan to stop De Bruyne? We’re going to try,” the coach told the assembled media, as per Sport.

“We know he’s a good player in form. When he arrived here he showed what a quality player he was. He links very well with [Sergio] Aguero – let’s see what happens,” he continued.

“City are a great side. If you leave them space they can hurt you,” Zidane continued. “The players get between the lines and cause problems. We need to try and stop that happening.”

In order to neutralise De Bruyne, Zidane may well call on Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who has impressed in the heart of the park and offers both the tenacity and the energy to keep tabs on the Belgium international.

However, Casemiro will need to be at his best to keep on top of De Bruyne, who has returned to action strongly after missing a chunk of the campaign with injury.

Regardless, the former Chelsea man’s maiden season back in the Premier League has been a success, having contributed nine assists and six goals in 23 EPL outings.

He has also scored three times in eight Champions League showings, and could well be a key man if City are to sneak past Real.
