After it was confirmed that Bayern Munich had signed Renato Sanches from Benfica for an initial fee of €35m, Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward came under fire.
The Portuguese starlet had long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but according to The Daily Star, as noted by several British media outlets, the reason United missed out was because Woodward was worried about paying such a high fee for the 18-year-old.
In turn, Bayern stepped in and snapped up the youngster along with Dortmund defender Mats Hummels as incoming boss Carlo Ancelotti has certainly delivered a real statement of intent.
This isn’t the first time that Woodward has come under fire from United fans over the club’s dealings in the transfer market, and it certainly isn’t likely to be the last.
With question marks still hanging over Louis van Gaal’s future at the club coupled with how the club intend on strengthening the squad this summer, it is certainly a frustrating time for supporters who wasted little time in airing their discontent.
United miss out on Renato Sanches. Thought it was basically “done deal”. Woodward is hopeless. Signed by Bayern Munich for €35million.

Ed Woodward can’t tie his own laces. The problems backstage are deeper than our manager.

Another highlight to why Ed Woodward is seriously incapable of doing a job .. Which is probably the reason to why Louis is still in charge
